Tony Quinn is a native of South Carolina and he was born into a musical family. He started singing with his parents at public appearances at about age 7. A year later, at age 8, Tony started playing guitar and bass and within a few years was performing regularly with the family band. By age 14 he began playing 4 nights a week as a bassist with the family act in Germany working in military clubs, private events, and rodeos. Later he moved on to playing guitar and 5 string banjo.
Tony moved to the San Francisco Bay area in 1978 and started playing with local bands, subbing in clubs while taking music classes at Chabot college to learn piano and music theory. In 1984 he moved to the Los Angeles area and co-found Zur Gabriel, a Christian rock/metal band. With Zur Gabriel, Tony played events and concerts, dabbling in home recording and songwriting.
